This is Nathan.
Lots of updates.
On a kinda educated whim, we decided to start the meat bunnies early. Luckily I worked a couple 55 hour weeks and had a great paycheque, So Thursday we went out to buy a cage, food, etc for a couple bunnies that we found on kijiji.
We have 2 bunnies, a 3 yr old female black and white dutch and a 4 yr old male White New Zealand Giant. We paid 10 dollars for the pair. Pics will follow from Grace. I am no good at that part of things.
Our plan is to raise them for their meat. There are many issues and unknowns that we still need to answer. Like neither of us has ever butchered an animal in our life. It makes me nervous, but I am sure that we will figure it out.
Over the weekend we got hit with a huge rain storm. When I built the greenhouse, I didn't keep the angle of the top very steep due to the angled raised beds that I was working around. The poly saged in the weight of the rain and the entire center of the greenhouse collapsed. Luckily after I drained the water the greenhouse regained its shape. Once the temperature heats up more, I will use a couple rolls of handyman special and make sure that it won't collapse with plants in it.
My wife surprised me the other day. She bought me some man jewelry. A single piece actually. A hunting knife 8 inches long. Yes, my wife buys me blades. She's the greatest.
Of course, over the weekend the the entire family got the flu. Really sucky. But we are getting over it now, so hopefully I will be able to finish some projects.
More next time. Hopefully not as long of a wait.
Cheers.

Spring Garden Projects
This is Grace, so the hubby finished building this bit of deliciousness. It is wonderful, and might I say quite huge and impressive.
He doesn't do small projects, and I love him for that.
The raised beds were here when we moved in way back when my youngest was only one. She's 3 now.
I planted garlic in the fall, and I already have one little guy peeking out of the soil.
My strawberries are greening up as well...
My grape vines still look kinda dead to me...but now that the greenhouse walls are up I'm hoping to see some new growth soon.
Outside of the green house I have green onions popping up...
Blueberries survived the winter and have buds.
More Blueberries...
And even more Blueberries...
Tulips galore in the front of house.
Irises coming up in green clumps.
Daffodils are busy sunning themselves...
And my hydrangeas are beginning to form new buds...If I get brave I will try to propagate from a few of the branches.
Lilac buds everywhere...I can't wait for the purple and white blooms that I know will follow soon.
More tulips peeking their sleepy heads out of the snow.
And the children are enjoying the coming of spring.
We put out a few of my broccoli plants and will check on how they're doing in the green house in a few days... the kids are excited that gardening is starting...and so am I...time to find my missing seeds...and continue to care for my kitchen window garden until it warms up a bit more.

Busy hands
Hi this is Grace...I've been procrastinating about posting...mostly I have just been too busy to get on the computer and actually post...
I have been busy filling the wonderful glass shelf the hubby made for me out of glass shelves and lumber...I have green all over it...it makes a wasted space in the kitchen much more useful now that it has a purpose.
So far I have planted cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, cantaloupe, watermelon, sweet basil, summer savory and possibly a few that I've forgotten...and I can't help browsing for new seeds anytime we're out and about...
I won't say I am a green thumb, even if the hubby insists I'm some sort of gardening expert...I've always been digging in dirt and hoping for something magical to happen
...I remember a place we were living in when I was a child I had to make my own garden. I dug a 2'x2' square smack dab in the middle of our back yard...needless to say my mom wasn't thrilled
Growing older hasn't dulled the thrill of digging in the dirt and bringing it to life. I suppose I've been waiting my whole life for a garden to call my own.
Most of my gardening has been trial and error. Part of the reason I fell in love with our current home was the raised beds in the backyard... Before the snow fell last fall I set to create more gardening space, by turning more than half of the front yard into garden bed...
I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can see my garden spring to life again...so until then I will try to be content with my window garden.

Random Thoughts Part 1
Hi there.
This is Nathan blogging in today.
Is that how you say it? Blogging in? Internet slang changes so much so I am not sure.
Anyways.
Today I am going to talk to you guys about some random thoughts that I had. It might not make sense in the grand scheme of things, but we will see.
So today my random thought is going to be about what is our plan and why.
Well, our plan is to move out to the sticks, but here is some of the details of said plan.
What we want to do is to move out onto a semi-flat piece of property with at least 4 acres of flatish land that can be used to grow veggies and animals. My goal is to have at least 20 acres. Preferably more. We want to spend the least amount of money on acquiring the land as we want to be able to have some funds to build a house on it.
This is going to be our forever property.
I am probably going to die in this house.
Preferably a hundred years from now.
The house, probably trailer, that is on the property needs to be able to let us live semi-comfortable while I build the house. The reason being that it will take me a bit of time to get the house finished and I don't think I can afford to own or rent a second house while doing it.
The reason that we want the amount of land is we want to be self-sufficient. We want to grow our own food, raise our own animals, produce our own electricity. It'll take a while to acquire all that goal, but we feel that it will be worth it. We think that this will be the best lifestyle to raise our children in, and give them a better appreciation for the resources God has given us.
We have a picture of what the perfect land will be. What we want to buy. It'll be at least 80 acres, about 15 of it will be fenced well drained pasture, the rest hill and or forest. We want at least a mobile home on it with at least 3 bedrooms. I'd really like that it has a good well and septic system. I'd also only like to spend approximately 100k for it.
That may be asking for a lot. The land may be a bit farther out of town, but we don't mind driving an extra 10 minutes if it means that we can have a piece of property that is closer to our dream land.
Those are broad generalizations of what we want to do. The details will be what helps to make this succeed or fail. And those are lots at the moment. We do have an idea on what we need to do to make this plan succeed, but now is the time to do the research. To ask the questions.
Well, this is enough random thoughts for today.
Later.

Welcome and Hello
Hi there.
We are the Pedde Family.
My wife's name is Grace, I have a four year old boy and a three year old girl. My name is Nathan.
We currently live in Prince George BC.
This is the story of out journey from the 'big' city and to a simpler life out in the sticks. We currently live on and own a 1900 sq ft house on a tiny 1/8 acres lot. It is funny as when we were buying the house 3 years ago, we thought that this house would be fine for us. We thought that the space was going to be large enough to meet our needs. Then my wife fell in love with Gardening. Then the what if questions started. And the Pinterest board. Filled with wonderful projects that we would never have the space to do on our tiny plot of land.
Over the course of the last 6 months we have been doing aggressive research on anything homesteading, animal raising, and everything in between. At this point most of it is dreaming and planning. Making a list and checking stuff off of it as we can go. Like finishing the reno's to the current spread so that we can afford to buy the next one. Like making complete use of our garden space so that we can get the most out of our current house. Like buying a piece of land with enough space to do those Pinterest projects.
In this blog, we will talk about our ideas and thoughts about what we want to do in our journey. Once we get our selves to a spot that we can start getting the ball rolling, we will share it all here.
Please feel free to comment and share your own experiences in the journey in moving to the sticks. Until next time.
Cheers.
Nathan
